The microscope is a remarkable tool for diagnosing cancer and other maladies, but it's sometimes fun when applied elsewhere, like guitar strings. I originally did this years ago when I was curious about whether two brands of strings were made by the same manufacturer. Distinctive tooling marks made that pretty easy.
